I’m Silvana, born and raised in Matosinhos, Porto (Portugal).
I graduated in Radiotherapy and work as a radiation therapist since 2009.
Because I wanted to know more about what were the actual cellular and molecular mechanisms behind radiotherapy’s efficacy, I enrolled in a Masters in Molecular Medicine and Oncology.

The master project was about the role that mitochondria have in the cell’s response to radiation. We were particularly interested to explore this in the context of the bystander effects – when cells that have not been directly traversed by radiation respond to stimuli released from irradiated cells.
